Hydro jetting relies on pressurized water streams — typically between 4,000 and 8,000 pounds per square inch (PSI) — to scour the interior walls of residential and commercial drain lines. A plumber inserts a specialized nozzle into the pipe, then pumps water at controlled pressure to break apart and flush out accumulated debris. The process works on grease buildup, mineral deposits, and the invasive tree roots that penetrate sewer lines.
Unlike mechanical snaking, which pushes a rotating cable through the pipe to punch through a single point of blockage, hydro jetting cleans the entire length of the line. Snaking may clear a channel for water to flow but leaves residual buildup on the pipe walls, so the clog often returns. Hydro jetting scours those walls, reducing the chance of the same blockage reforming and addressing the whole line rather than just the point of obstruction.
